Dr. Deepak Sobti Among the First U.S. Ophthalmologists to Offer Johnson & Johnson's New TECNIS PureSee™ IOL

July 1, 2026

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas, July 1, 2026 — Texas Eye and Cataract (T|E|C) announced today that cataract surgeon Dr. Deepak Sobti, MD, is one of the first approximately 30 ophthalmologists in the United States selected to provide eligible patients with early access to the TECNIS PureSee™ intraocular lens (IOL) from Johnson & Johnson following its recent FDA approval.

Patients at Texas Eye and Cataract have been receiving the new lens since early June, allowing individuals in Midlothian, Ellis County, and neighboring communities to benefit from one of the newest premium cataract lens technologies available in the United States.

"Cataract surgery continues to evolve, and our goal is to make the latest proven technologies available to our patients as quickly as possible," said Dr. Deepak Sobti, founder and lead cataract surgeon at Texas Eye and Cataract. "The TECNIS PureSee IOL expands our ability to personalize cataract surgery, giving appropriate patients another advanced option for achieving excellent vision while maintaining high-quality visual performance."

Cataracts develop when the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy, causing blurred vision, glare, and difficulty performing everyday activities. During cataract surgery, the clouded lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. The design of that replacement lens plays an important role in a patient's visual outcome after surgery.

The TECNIS PureSee IOL, which received FDA approval in March 2026, is the first FDA-approved extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens designed to provide contrast sensitivity comparable to that of a traditional monofocal lens while extending a patient's functional range of vision. This is particularly important because good contrast sensitivity can improve the ability to distinguish objects in challenging conditions such as dim lighting, overcast weather, or nighttime environments.

Unlike some earlier presbyopia-correcting lens technologies, the PureSee IOL utilizes a purely refractive optical design intended to extend vision while minimizing unwanted visual phenomena such as halos and glare. Clinical studies found that 97% of patients reported no very bothersome visual disturbances, and 97% said they would recommend the lens to family members or friends. The lens is designed to provide excellent distance vision, strong intermediate vision, and useful near vision, helping many patients reduce their dependence on glasses after cataract surgery.

The technology has already been implanted in nearly 500,000 eyes worldwide, with successful use in international markets before becoming available in the United States following FDA clearance.

Texas Eye and Cataract continues to invest in advanced surgical technologies so patients throughout Ellis County have access to leading treatment options close to home. The practice offers comprehensive ophthalmology services, including cataract surgery, glaucoma care, premium intraocular lenses, refractive surgery consultations, and comprehensive medical eye care.

Individuals interested in learning whether the TECNIS PureSee IOL may be appropriate for their cataract surgery are encouraged to schedule a consultation with Texas Eye and Cataract.
