Eyelid Surgery
They say that when you look into someone’s eyes, you can see their soul. What if the first thing that you see is how puffy and gloomy the eyes are, are you going to look, anyway?
Will you consider eyelid surgery if that is the case? The answer depends on the reason you need to undergo such a procedure.
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a surgery that modifies the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. This is a technique for taking away sagging skin, or for adding or removing fat from around the eyelids. Blepharoplasty
came from the Greek word blepharon
or “eyelid” plus the word plasty, which means “to combine to form.”
Who is a potential candidate for this procedure?
1. Those with medical conditions like Ptosis.
- Ptosis or droopy eyelid is a condition because of injury, age, or different medical conditions. Depending on the extent of the disorder, droopy upper eyelids can impede or significantly decrease vision depending on how much it obstructs the pupil. This then can cause problems with daily activities like driving and reading.
- Dry eye syndrome. People older than 50 years old have declining tear production, which may worsen eyelid problems. The surgeon could adjust the underlying musculature around the eyes to correct this, before gently removing loose skin to produce a more youthful lower eyelid.
2. Cosmetic Blepharoplasty
- Everyone has to remember that skin sagging around the eyes is a common part of aging, but if it compromises your vision, you may be a good candidate for surgery.
- When we get older, our skin loses its elasticity and readjusts our muscles. These results in folds in the upper lids and creases forming in the lower lids. The purpose of the surgery here is to enhance the appearance of the area around the eyes and to improve the blurry vision of drooping eyelids.
Here are some expectations to remember before a blepharoplasty:
- Operation is performed one at a time in the upper and lower eyelids. The two must carry out separate operations
- The eyelid will droop as part of the aging process and the eye lift treatment won’t last.
How much does it cost to eyelid surgery?
The cost of eyelid surgery depends on the nature and extent of the operation carried out.
Will insurance cover for it?
Usually, insurance does not apply here, as eyelid surgery is a cosmetic operation, however, if the lids cover the vision already, insurance might cover it.
